Sean P. Sullivan Northwest Wine Report is an independent, subscriber-funded publication dedicated to the wines and wineries of the Pacific Northwest, bringing Northwest wine to you and bringing you to Northwest wine. The site provides expert-level news, feature article coverage, and reviews of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia wines.

Northwest Wine Report is the only independent site offering blind-tasted wine reviews, all from a single palate with over 20 years of experience with the region. The site was established by Sullivan in 2004 as Washington Wine Report. It was rebranded Sean P. Sullivan Northwest Wine Report in 2022.

The site’s goals are:

  • To provide in-depth news and reporting about wines, wineries, vineyards, wine regions, individuals, and trends in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia
  • To help you select Northwest wines at a variety of price levels by providing objective, timely, blind tasted wine reviews
  • To help you plan trips to wine country by providing information about Pacific Northwest wines, wineries, and wine regions
  • To connect you to the larger wine community

Northwest Wine Report is a four time finalist and two time winner of the ‘Best Single Subject Blog’ award from the Wine Blog Awards. Sullivan has received a Toast! award from the Auction of Washington Wines for his work covering the Northwest wine industry.

Articles are generally published Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. All content on this site is written by Sean P. Sullivan unless otherwise indicated.

Founder and Editor, Sean P. Sullivan

Sean P. Sullivan is the founder and editor of Northwest Wine Report. He has been writing about and reviewing Northwest wine since 2004 and has written more than 400 magazine articles, published over 2,000 articles on this site, and reviewed over 17,000 Northwest wines.

A native of Massachusetts, Sullivan was an MD-PhD student living in Boston when he decided to leave the program after three years to move to Seattle and pursue a love of mountain climbing. It was at this time, the year 2000, that he became interested in wine.

Captivated by the Northwest’s exploding wine scene, in 2004 Sullivan began writing wine reviews and distributing them via email under the name Washington Wine Report. (Read about how this came about here.) In 2007, he transitioned Washington Wine Report from an email distribution list to an on-line site. At the end of 2009, Sullivan left a career in software and biotechnology to focus on wine writing full-time. Washington Wine Report was rebranded as Sean P. Sullivan’s Northwest Wine Report in September, 2022.

In addition to his work at Northwest Wine Report, Sullivan has written for Seattle Metropolitan since 2010. He has contributed to Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book since 2015 and is an adjunct instructor at Walla Walla Community College’s Institute for Enology and Viticulture. From 2013 to 2022, Sullivan was a contributing editor at Wine Enthusiast magazine, covering Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Canada. (See a complete list of publications here.) He resides in Seattle, Washington.
