As the one year anniversary of formally launching the paid subscription side of Northwest Wine Report approaches next week, I wanted to extend my sincerest thanks to everyone who has subscribed to this site over the last year. There are two reasons why this site exists today. The first one is you.

Subscriptions to Northwest Wine Report are my primary source of income. Quite simply, without you subscribing, I am not able to continue doing any of what I do here.

Over the last year, I’ve published over 150 articles on this site and reviewed more than 1,200 wines. I’ve also broken several major stories.

None of those things would have been possible without you, my subscribers. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I ask for your continued support to keep the site going.

The second reason that this site still exists is my wife. Initially, she provided the financial runway to move my site to a new platform, add a searchable wine database, and try to get the subscription part of the site off the ground. Equally importantly, she convinced me to keep the site going.

Shortly before I announced the launch of paid subscriptions last year, I told my wife that I had decided to shut this site down. I had done a lot of number crunching and modeling in prior months. I did not believe there would be sufficient paid subscriptions to make the site financially viable given the niche nature of my focus. My wife convinced me to continue with launching the site.

I did. Still, I had my doubts.

Two weeks after launching subscriptions, I told my wife that I thought doing so had been a mistake. I intended to refund money to people who had subscribed, shut the site down shortly thereafter, and move on to other things. Again, she convinced me to keep going. I’m so very grateful that she did.

Still, I never (ever) believed that success was likely. Then a funny thing happened, which brings me full circle to the first reason that this site is still here.

People subscribed. You subscribed!

Over the course of the year, you have continued to do so. What once seemed like a near impossibility – that I would make enough money with this site to continue publishing it – suddenly became reality.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s by no means smooth sailing from here on out. The Northwest wine industry is modestly-sized. Making a living writing about it via this site remains a challenge.

If you haven’t subscribed yet, I still very much need you to do so. If you have subscribed, I need your continued support to keep Northwest Wine Report going. This site is fully subscriber-powered. Every single person who has subscribed is critical to the on-going continuation of this site and the coverage I’m able to provide.

All that said, support for my work at Northwest Wine Report over this last year has exceeded my expectations. I have you to thank for that.

Sincerely, I can never thank you enough. Your subscriptions have allowed me to continue pursuing my passion for shining a spotlight on Pacific Northwest wineries and wines. I am privileged and grateful to be able to do so.

Again, thank you.
